Yep, It's a Guardian Issue, Not An Age Issue

By A Model Anonymous:

It seems the industry is attempting to establish an illusion that they are trying to stop underage models from working in the industry. How many articles, will we have to read reinforcing allegiance, support and protection for minorities. So many rules, so little examples. Why doesn't someone ask any of those casting directors face to face why they repeatedly choose 13 year old girls? Why doesn't someone harass model agents to stop sending 13 year old girls to castings? The brutal truth is that the lurid truth is that if you ostracise the younger girls, you're removing the majority of new models - and no ones wants to get out of business.

I agree. I agree that girls, of any age, should be given an opportunity to work in this industry. Some girls are extremely mature for 13 years old, whereas others can barely string an adequate sentence together at 29 (maybe something to do with empty school books). Maybe, if the young girls had chauffeurs - interns at agencies, parents who weren't overseeing the chequebooks and even siblings - ala Wixson there wouldn't so many problems.

...

I know Women has, done it before with a few model and not only has this proved brilliant but its a reflection of the organization of the agency. They know what they are doing and the girls can then concentrate on their castings at hand.

...

Everyone deserves a chance to walk in the shows and I don't think its solicitous to stall someones opportunity just because they are too young.

I agree with the above. And as I touched on the subject earlier today, the issue at hand is not an age problem, but a management/guardian problem. Should we stop Elle Fanning from being an actress? Or a young boy/girl appearing in commercials? Or Willow Smith from singing? This is a business, just figure a way to do it right. The real issue at hand, it seems, is a lack of care. For example, when an agency sends a girl out to a casting without direction, that's a lack of care,  no matter how old she is. Stop whining and deal with the real problem at hand. And as A Model Anonymous titled his/her piece, it's A movement, which will never move.
