Today the mobile site and apps account for 13% of total sales, and at the rate m-commerce is growing at Rue La La, mobile may account for 20% of total sales next year, reports Stephanie Brocoum, vice president of member marketing.

Thoughts
A mobile/portable device, like the iPad, is often used in a leisure way. And many times shopping is done leisurely as well. So i'm surprised why more retailers do not cater to this new opportunity. Especially smaller boutiques! Though it might be a big upfront investment for them, the long term value is huge.
Scenario: A visitor to NYC enters a small boutique, loves what they carry (smaller local designers) and ends up buying an item. Ideal customer to this boutique obviously. But they are from Arizona, and probably wont be back to NYC for another one year, or 5 years. That's lost revenue.
I'll repeat: that's lost revenue. So why not offer that customer a window to continue shopping the boutique, even when back riding their horse, or waiting for their steak to cook. In Arizona.
Offer wifi in your store, and as they check-out let them know of your iPhone/iPad app, that they can download right there and then! And if you purchase through the app you also get free shipping. Cha-Ching for the next 5 years. Get it? Now do it.
This applies to designers as well.
