A Few Quotes that Surfaced Up Over the Past Few Days:

WWD: Do you think that bloggers like Bryanboy and Tavi Gevinson are entering the “influencer” category?

"I’m certain they are and I’m certain that in 10 years the business will be quite different. I’m all for that kind of dispersal in a general sense but for the moment we’re not there. It sounds like a very Establishment view, but I think that the Establishment is composed, in general, of really skilled people. It isn’t like the people we see in the front rows at shows are there accidentally. And I don’t think that they are prepared to cede the power and I don’t think the power is going to be wrested away from them by Bryanboy, although he seems like a clever and devoted guy and is into the subject matter. But personally, I don’t think that fashion is really clothes. My first interest is not the commercial applications or whether Bryanboy gets excited by a handbag or something; it’s really the core design piece that’s most interesting to me."Guy Trebay

“In some respects this was her most assertive anti-fashion statement in awhile. Something about these clothes…felt so outside current fashion and obsessions…True, some of the outfits almost dared you to call them ugly. But the methods of examination have begun to feel dated.” Cathy Horyn on Miuccia Prada’s AW10 collection.

"Then there are newspapers, facing economic turmoil and prepared to take desperate measures—like abandoning the first amendment of journalism that says a reporter must be there. Now it is supposedly acceptable to review collections, blogger-style, via the Internet. (Meanwhile, in an ironic switch, bloggers are sitting front row, filling spaces left by journalists with zero travel budgets.)"Suzy Menkes / NY Times. [Via]

Wintour Vor 2010!!

The United States governments must elect a new president every 4 years, with a chance for a 1st term president to run, and serve, a 2nd term. For a total of 8 years, max. What if editors-in-chiefs were voted-in the same way? Imagine the possibilities!

I believe part of the success of the United States is the limited number of years a president can serve.

How did this come about, and why I bring it up is because of Milan's discontent over Wintour's travel plans during the Milan Fashion Week; in which The Cut again highlights in a post, in whose headline reads: Milan Fashion Week Organizers Still Furious Over Anna Wintour’s Travel Plans. The story that Anna Wintour "had only allotted three days for Milan's fall 2010 shows, [and]  organizers crunched what should have been, and usually is, a weeklong schedule down to three days."

The problem I see is that at some point, in Anna's career, she tipped over from being an advocate of fashion & designers, to maybe being more of a gatekeeper; due to the powers she managed to obtain for her self. But as life shows daily, too much power in ones hand, is very tempting to be used for evil doings.

The bigger problem I see though is that, also at some point, designers became wimps and started to suck up to such powers, and as a result caved under it.

Coco Chanel would be ashamed in them, if she was alive now.

So why not instead of getting furious, the designers kept the schedule, and if Anna had done this intentionally, maybe even veto her out. Yes veto, as in no invitation.

Yes, maybe in the short term their name might not be featured in the pages of Vogue, but in the long run they would get control over their brand. And maybe remember that their goal is not the pages of vogue, but the followers who vote with their dollars, because of their love for the brand.

And with the internet they have no more excuses.

Let's not forget that Vogue needs the designers just as much. They do still have to fill those pages.

Another issue I see with sitting at the helm for so long is that a voice dies out, after a certain time. Few can keep their voice fresh. So a change every 4, 8, or 12 years can only be good for the artistic vision, and upcoming generation.

But all this does not really matter at this point, thanks to current revolution taking place over, and because of, the internet. It's only a matter of time before the voice is dissected and spread. It's actually already happening. And big Anna will be many mini Anna's. Again, it's already happening.

Anna is really the representative of the death of the era of fashion paper journalism.

Let's not forget the tag line: "Before it's In Fashion It's In Vogue."  What the creatives of that tag lines missed is that Style trumps Fashion. That's the difference between Vogue Paris (Style) and Vogue US (Fashion).

Going back to the 'generation' mentioned earlier. I still think that every generation needs their own rebel or voice to represent them. But the way I again see it now, is that to us now that rebel is more individuality then a singular being. It is John and Tomi and Susie and Tavi...not Anna, and only Anna.

Your thoughts.

PS: Please remember that I'm not in nature a journalist, so it takes a lot for me to express my ideas. I'm doing the best I can.

Marvelous Work from Upcoming Talent Shao-Yen Chen

 Shao-Yen Chen

Shao-Yen Chen, the graduate who interned for Alexander McQueen, Hussein Chalyan, and Claire Tough, is set to take London by a storm, if his designs are an indication. And it's a good thing that his experience at Central Saint Martins has been "too long", because we might just be ready for him.

Here you're looking at his graduating collection which he presented last Sunday. And I must say Sheep & Lambs have never looked so fashionable.

Read more of his Q&A here, and you might also like to check out his previous knitted collection!

A+ from us.
