Shocker | Vogue Italia Goes Socialite, Landing Pixie Geldof On Its Feb Cover

Vogue Italia February 2009 Pixie Geldof by Steven Meisel

So Exciting!!& "SO COOL"

What was going through the mind of Franca Sozzani when she was thinking the February 09 cover, for Vogue Italia? She seems to have gone from Evolution in January to a revolution in February, landing socialite Pixie Geldof on her magazine's's cover! Shot by Steven Meisel.

Vogue Italia, known for it's forward thinking and artistic spirit usually always picks a model for its cover. And many a times they're fresh faces that end up making it in the industry because of that choice. Or bringing back old faces back to the future, example Guinevere van Seenus for Jan 08.

In 2008 11 of the 12 covers featured models. Exception was the May cover which featured Eva Mendes. Eva went on after to be picked for the CK ad campaign, and Interview magazine amongst other works during the year.

So again I ask, what is going on here, are the socialite "It girls" the new big think in the industry? Are models to be put on the shelf for a while?

If this was someone other then Franca we would rule it out as a mistake; bad choice; even foolish; but it being Franca we instead have to sit back and contemplate the choice.

After a few minutes the surprise may go down, noting that in the last year, socialites have been quite active in the industry. They've been seen in ad campaigns, covers, and all over the web, as for example Pixie's sister Peaches Geldof  writing for Nylon magazine. On and on.

Pixie her self is now seen in Agent Provocateurs virgins.

But more to come... Rumors has it that Pixie has a 14 page spread inside.
