Balenciaga S/S 09 Ad Campaign | Elsa Sylvan by David Sims

In a surprise move it seems the multi-model Balenciaga S/S 09 Ad Campaign will feature the models solo instead of grouped together. At least that's the hint we're getting from this first ad. It features model Elsa Sylvan alone as you can see.

Elsa is one of the following models to be featured in the campaign:
Amanda Laine, Anabela Belikova, Anna Jagodzinska, Anya Kazakova, Diana Farkhullina, Elsa Sylvan, Hanne-Gaby Odiele, Iris Strubegger, Katie Fogarty, and Kinga Rajzak.

I cant say I'm excited about this. So many models featured individually become a distraction. In comparison, Prada's multi-models S/S 09 campaign brought together in one shoot becomes much more successful.

That set apart, the ad is quite futuristic and contemporary. That I'm not too surprised with. But it's also a little puzzling. I mean what's with the Green Cube? And the significant of the stairs being it's base?

Nicolas Ghesquière of Balenciaga, it seems, is continuing to treat his ads more as art pieces than traditional ad campaigns. He's not trying to persuade and entice, but make a statement and share a point of view, instead.
