Undercover Top 10: Lingerie

Undercover-Top-10-Lingerie

By Tracy Anne Navratil.

Today’s view on the term ‘sexy’ has been skewed...to say the least. The other day I was shopping at a local lingerie boutique when a woman proceeded to thrust in my face thongs with cherries and skull and cross bones on them. She told me they were the best selling items. I hope she lost her job that day.

Lingerie is the ultimate challenge, mainly because many women today are not satisfied with the way they look. Put them in next to nothing, and they are not going to feel any better. But here is the thing many women today don’t understand: fashion rules don’t always apply in bedroom wear. Less is not more. On the other hand, just like layering is the current key to dressing, it also is the same for lingerie. To be blunt, if it takes longer to take off it’s just going to make him hotter for you. Lingerie can’t save the world, get you that raise you’ve been begging for, or even fix your car that wont start...but it may save your sex life.

We are women, when we were little we played dress up in our mothers closet, now it’s time to play in our own. Lingerie is an outfit that takes as much time and preparation as getting dressed for a night out. Let’s take the time and effort to really feel sexy, not for men - for ourselves. Try on a corset for a change, it can cinch the waist, giving you that sexy hourglass body you’ve always wanted.  Burlesque star Dita Von Teese spoke of corsets in an interview for Glamour.com as being “the holy grail of lingerie” - it may be time we start following her advice. Add on nylon stockings attached to garters, and top it off with a sexy silk kimono to seduce anyone under your spell.

Arvida Bystrom | In Search of Teen Spirit

Arvida Bystrom

I'm always fascinated by the talent, energy, and pure innocent spirit of teens. Though many may be insecure, and unsure of their being, there are always twinkling little stars that shine amongst them. Ones that go on to become our major stars.

Our fault as adults is we many times fail to pay attention, recognize, and support such young talents. Because it is in those early years that they demand our most attention, support, and nurturing. And if it wasn't for their individual commitment and unrecognized self will, we would probably be left without much hope in new energy and original flair.

So it is with these thoughts occupying my mind  that i've decided to go out, find, and converse with such young individuals. And my first lady is nothing short of a pure capacity for greatness.

I came across Emma Bystrom through her blog Arvida Bystrom. She's from Sweden and her interests lie in photography and models. I recently spoke to her and here is our conversation, amongst which you'll find a portfolio of her work.

Hi Emma

How old are you?
I am 17 years old, turning 18 in October 2009.

Where are you from?
I’m from sthlm in Sweden.

You have a cool middle name, Arvida, who chose it for you?
Actually I’ve got two middle names, Elisabeth and Arvida. Elisabeth is from my mothers side and is also my grandmothers middle namne. Arvida is my fathers side and it’s his mothers middle name.

Does it have a meaning?
No, not really. I just like it ‘cause Emma is a bit too common, so I guess using my middle name is an easy way to make myself feel a bit special. Haha.

What are you studying?

I’m studying the 2nd year in a Swedish photo high school.

On Her Blog:

When did you start your blog?
I started the Arvida Bystrom blog in march this year.

What motivated you to start it?

I had a blog before this one with more text and less pictures. I wanted a place where I could share my pictures and I also realized that the blogs I like often got less text and lots of pictures. Then it’s a bit tearing to reveal your whole life for people in text, people doesn’t seem to take pictures as serious as text.

Addison Gill Wins V A Model Search

Addison-Gill

Yet another Canadian wins the hearts of V Magazine+Supreme Management. Today the V A Model Search winner was announced. And the coveted spot went to 16 year old Addison Gill; setting the motion of the  express lane to model stardom.

5 other contestants had made it to the final round, all of whom were quiet amazing.

Gill is no stranger to winning though; at 14 she also won the Toronto-based Chantale Nadeau model-agency search.

Last years winner Amanda Laine won the hearts of casting directors, designers, and editors around, and rose to the pinnacle of the high-end fashion. Laine went on to open the Alexander McQueen and Miu Miu shows her first season, and from there the list grew long and high.

Will the same motions set the young Gill onto such designer delicacies? We'll know soon enough, with February around the corner, and when the F/W 09-10 shows are set to get underway.

Of course having supreme and V behind you is no small thing. Both a major and influential magazine, and one of the hottest agencies around, they can make a girl with ease. A girl with the right ingredients, such as Gills. After-all, look at the eyes. Need I say more?

Congratulations!

PS: Be sure to look for Addison in the upcoming pages of V Magazine.

Barneys Art of Catalog Display

Catalog-Barneys

Product display is an art in its self. There are people that specialize just in doing that, be it for window displays or catalogs, among other things. The beautiful ones look simple, but it takes a lot of effort reaching that beauty and simplicity.

Barneys' on top of their game when it comes to this. Following their Emma's Dilemma Catalog; they've released their Peace+Love holiday catalog. And it's wroth admiring its details; specifically the product arrangements. Here is a peek at it's insides.

Books | Presidential Designer 'Narciso Rodriguez'

Narciso Rodriguez Book

It's funny how on Nov 4th Narciso Rodriguez released the above book: Narciso Rodriguez .

If you remember, Nov 4th was Election Day and on that day's night Michelle Obama walked onto the stage with her husband, president elect Barack Obama, in the now infamous red & black Narciso Rodriguez dress.

Anyway, the new 272 pages hardcover book from Rizzoli:

"reveals the artist at work in his atelier. Rodriguez takes his inspiration from the life that surrounds him—whether it’s the subtle color of faded paint on a façade, a pattern made by the sand, or the gesture of a young man on a skateboard—and records it in sketchbooks and vivid snapshots. Always experimenting with new textiles and textures, he creates deceptively simple montages—artworks in their own right—that gracefully yield the stunning dresses we see flowing down the runway."
