Love was in the air back in 2005 when Rodarte—a seemingly unknown name back in 2005—was made an icon when WWD featured them on their Feb 3rd, 2005 cover. The rest is now history; short as it may be.
Was it the power of media, or were the Mulleavy sisters bound for stardom? Cameron Silver, of Decades Inc.’s, told WWD back then, that they "were destined for greatness: “They’re totally classy, sweet, somewhat
nerdy girls. That’s a nice mix in fashion — nice and nerdy.”"
Their first collection (fall 2005) was made up of 10 pieces, 7 dresses, plus 3 coats. It was "all meticulously constructed and featuring artsy details (for example, peacock feathers laced into black ribbon trim on a red silk dress)" reported WWD, in their coverage. The sisters response was that "We can’t believe this is happening".
I had personally not seen that first collection and am glad I came across it today. A great piece of clothe will pass the test of time, and these items, though not extremely old yet, look as fresh today as they did back in 05. Whats more wonderful is that in comparison to other great designers, Kate and Laura are just in their beginnings.
You've seen what they've brought us the last few seasons and the web they're weaving continues to grow beautifully. [Source WWD]
