Last friday WWD had an article about Fashion Photographers. I might
have guessed that these guys made a good living out of their craft, but when I read the $#'s, i was baffled a little.
It seems that the major players in the field, the likes of Mario Testino, Craig McDean (shown) and Ellen von Unwerth, can make north of $100,000 a day, shooting ad campaigns for the major fashion brands. While an up and coming photographer could start between $25,000-$50,000 per day, and the seasoned ones $75,000-$100,000. It reminded me of the 'Garden of Delight' shoot, in last years Vogue December issue, by Steven Meisel; which made me wonder if these guys are truly playing in a garden of delight.
